HavenScout's Purpose
HavenScout is a first step heatmap that ties your information to the information from government sources and locations around the world. Its purpose is to help people compare retirement-destination research across countries, U.S. States, and Canadian provinces. The site is intended to identify location capabilities and help raise questions about retiring in countries, states, and provinces, not to produce a final recommendation.
Research standards
HavenScout favors official government, statistical, public-health, environmental, travel-advisory, and clearly identifies source links when available. Editorial summaries and model scores are labeled as such, and destination pages include source links so readers can verify current facts. When possible years and dates are included to ensure that the user understands how old the information is. If you find something broken or out of date we appreciate an email to inform us of the issue and a chance to correct it.
Use of AI
HavenScout was built using AI but does not use any AI engines to process user data or make decisions that affect users. The platform is a data presentation and filtering tool. Users input their own parameters. The site applies transparent, auditable arithmetic to public datasets. There is no AI decision-making, no profiling, and no personal data processed server-side.
Corrections Process
Send corrections through the contact page or email inbox@havenscout.net. Include the destination or page, the disputed statement, the source you believe is stronger, and the date you checked it. Do not send sensitive personal information.
Data Limitations
Travel advisories, visa rules, taxes, healthcare access, exchange rates, costs, local safety, climate risk, air quality, and news can change quickly. Some values are live, some are embedded from public datasets, and some are editorial research notes. Missing values are not proof that a risk does not exist.
Security and Data Minimization Standards
HavenScout does not collect budget or location data entered into the main menu sections. The only data we do collect is from your emails. Below are some other facts about HavenScout.
- No user accounts are required.
- Budget, household, theme, accessibility, pinned-destination, and guided-match settings are stored in the browser unless the user exports, prints, shares, or sends them.
- Google Maps, air quality, exchange-rate, advisory, news, and other live feeds are routed through first-party pages or Netlify functions where appropriate.
- Public security headers, a content security policy, and server-side API keys are used to reduce avoidable exposure.
Commercial Influence
HavenScout destination listings and planning scores should not be read as paid placements. HavenScout has not received any payments and mainly uses official open source information and servers. If HavenScout adds sponsorships in the future, paid placements, affiliate compensation, or referral relationships will be disclosed near the relevant content and on this website. The purpose of this website is to assist people in developing their ideal retirement location.
